Lecture on “Will Palestinian-Israeli Negotiations Return?” Prof. ‘Aziz Haidar
Al-Liqa’ Center Headquarter Al-Liqa’ Center for Religious and Heritage Studies in the Holy Land hosted Prof. ‘Aziz Haidar who is an expert on Israeli affairs and who addressed the question “Will Palestinian-Israeli negotiations return?”. Mr. Mousa Darwish, Deputy Director of the Center, moderated the lecture. Prof. Haidar focused on factors hampering the return to negotiations. Israel is presently ruled by rightists who are determined to built colonial settlements, the residents if which in East Jerusalem and West Bank numbered more than half a million people. And steps are being accelerated in Judaizing Jerusalem and changing its milestones. Israel had successfully put American attempts to solve the problem on the sideline. And Israel had no regional or international pressures exerted on it. He said also: it is a strange that some Arab regimes are in the process of strengthening its relations with America and Israel at a time when Palestinian are in dire need of building Palestinian society to confront challenges. He concludes: despite all these difficulties, there is no escape from negotiations which are based on international legitimacy and decisions. Participating in the lecture of Dr. Haidar were academicians and leading lay people. Question and answers session followed.
